Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “ıvır zıvır sindirilebilirler”) tanılamamlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine rabıtlanmasıyla oluşan kısa polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino hamız kalıntısı ile diğeri arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” yahut peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]

Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (yahut çok skorda polipeptit zir birimi barındırır). Zemin ayrım peptitlerin kısa, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]

Protein sentezi esnasında her amino hamız, öbür amino asite mütemadi, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle rabıtlanır. Polipeptid kuruluşsına peklan amino asitlerin her biri kuruluşya peptid rabıtlarıyla rabıtlanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu esnasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir akarsu çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]

Vasati bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Malum en uzun polipeptit, yaklaşık 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda mevcut “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine peklan amino asitlere kalıntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki kalıntı, bağ yapmamış, erkin amino grubu barındırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin öbür ucundaki erkin α-karboksil grubu olan kalıntıevet C ucu adı verilir.
